Sri Sathya Sai Baba on Himself – Part II

This is in continuation of the article Sri Sathya Sai Baba on Himself published earlier.

4) You might have heard some people say that I became Sai Baba when a scorpion stung me! Well, I challenge any one of you to get stung by scorpions and transform yourself into Sai Babas. No, the scorpion had nothing to do with it! In fact, there was no scorpion at all! I came in response to the prayers of sages and saints and Sadhakas, for the restoration of Dharma (Righteousness)

- Discourse on the Chitravathi River Bed, Puttaparthi on 23-2-1958

5) You have not realized yet the secret of this advent. You are indeed lucky, more fortunate than many others. It is only when Yasoda found every every length of rope a little too short to go round his belly that she discovered He (Lord Krishna) was the Lord. So too, you will realize every description of My Mahima (Divine Miracle) a little too short of the actuality; and then you will get convinced. Meanwhile if you study the Sastras (sacred scriptures) and know the characteristics of the Avathara (divine incarnation) of the Lord, you might get the glimpse of the Truth regarding me.

6) If I had come amongst you as Narayana with four arms holding the conch, the discus, the mace and the lotus, you would have encased me in museum and collected charges from people for my darshan (seeing the Divine Incarnation)! If I had come as a mere man, you would not have respected my teachings and practiced them. So, I came in this human form with superhuman wisdom and powers.

7) Since I recline on Truth, I am called Sathya Sai; Saayi (as in Seshashaayi) means reclining. The name is very appropriate, let me assure you. It is only those who fail to follow my instructions and who deviate from the path I have laid down, that fail to get what I hold out before them. Follow my instructions and become soldiers in MY army; I will lead you on to victory. When someone asks you, in great earnestness, where the Lord is to be found, do not try to dodge the question. Give them the answer that rises up to your tongue from you heart. Direct them. He is here in the Prasanthi Nilayam.

Discourse at Prasanthi Nilayam, 21-11-1962

We will see many more of His sayings in the ensuing article.
