The Power of Words
Have you ever thought about the power of words? Words are more powerful than any known substance on the earth. It is with words that we create the life that we want or create the very life we do not want. Words have started wars, brought about peace; initiated romances, and killed marriages.
According to the Bible, God created the universe by speaking it into existence; and it is upheld this to very day by "the word of His power" (Genesis 1; Hebrews 1:3 of the Bible). We were made in God's image and after His likeness and we have the God-given ability to create our life according to the words that we speak.
Your life today expresses what you have been speaking over the past years, months, days, and even minutes. When you say "That makes me mad!" what state do you end up in? I can assure you that you are mad. If you say, "I am so happy!" guess what, you are happy. Our speaking promotes different states of mind. These "mind sets" send us off in that direction until our speaking changes. What we say to our self, our "self talk" controls how we feel at any given moment.
Our words not only control our lives, but they can control others as well. If you tell someone that he is ugly, what do you think happens? Before you told him how ugly he was, he was happy. But after you said, "Man, are you ugly" his whole demeanor changed. How did you do that? You did it by the power of your words.
If you constantly tell your kids they are stupid, they will believe it and "be" stupid. They are not stupid because of something they did; they are stupid because of what you said, and kept saying. Through your constant speaking of how stupid they are, they believe you and now manifest stupidity.
If you have a headache and tell everyone how bad it is—it gets worse and hangs on all the longer. Stop talking about your ailments to others. Stop talking about your ailments to yourself. Start speaking health and health will come. Start speaking wealth, and wealth will come.
Speaking of wealth; have you ever complained about your bills? Have you ever told others that you do not have enough money? If so, it is time to stop! If you keep talking about bills and lack of money, more of the same will come. Rather, be thankful for what you have. Start speaking of the abundance you have and not the lack you feel. I can assure you, things will begin to change. This is not some kind of magic; it is the power of words at work. The power of words is a God-given law, the same as is gravity. Few ever come to know this law and thus end up violating it by speaking disease, poverty, lack, hatred, and all other unwanted happenings into their lives. And yes, there are those who understand the power of words and use them to create the life that they want and desire.
Start speaking with thankfulness. Start thanking God for all the good things that you have and stop complaining about the things that you don't possess. Thank God that you are alive and start itemizing, with thanksgiving, the things good in your life. I can assure you that when you start speaking in this way, you will be blessed. All kinds of serendipitous happenings will show up in your life. Helpful people and awesome opportunities will start coming your way. Not because of some new age magic—but because of your obedience to the God-given universal law of words.
Words are powerful. So take heed how you use them. Use them to bring blessings upon others and yourself. Don't be unwise by speaking evil and hateful things to, and about others.
When I go to work each morning, the first thing I try to do is to speak something positive when I enter the door. Each time I do this, I get positive feedback. What I speak to others will determine the feedback I get. I had a boss that came in very often and said, "It's a great day to serve the corp." Those words sent a positive response back to him from me and others in the office. Use your words to change your entire home or work environment.
Do you want to get promoted at work? Start speaking words of favor to those at your place of employment. Do you want a better home life? Start speaking words that build up the family and its individual members.
It is not easy to control the tongue. The Epistle of James (again in the Bible) said that the tongue is an unruly member and that it is hard to bridle (James 3:1-12). From experience, I know that this is true. However, through exercise and discipline you can control your tongue and create the life that you want. It takes practice and you have to work at it daily. But if you do harness your tongue, you will be blessed beyond measure.
